Our Birthday Boy!

Collin celebrated his 10th birthday today! We can not believe how much he has grown! He is no longer in the single digits. Soon our little guy is going to be a teenager! For his tenth birthday he requested a Mexican Fiesta and Pumpkin Pie. He did not really want toys but was so excited to get his high class scooter from his mom and grandparents. Other than that he got "straight cash:)". This year Collin has really matured into a young boy. I can not remember the last time he cried, he is very loving, he is doing very well in school. We pray God continues to open his heart and open the gospel to him. That would be the biggest and best gift to us. In the meantime we continue to pray for our boy and study with him and raise him in the ways of the Lord.

Collin and baby Noah! He loves holding babies and playing with them:)

Our Mexican Fiesta:) I made too much food! Does anybody want some shredded chicken!!! Goodness!

Happy Boy!

Collin requested Pumpkin Pie. He does not like cake:)

Aunt Becca, cousin Tay, and Collin. He does not look happy in this picture but he was super excited! He loves his baby cousin and aunt! What a fun day we had!

About 34 weeks pregnant

It is so unbelievable to me that on Saturday (two days away) I will be 34 weeks pregnant. I have been really looking forward to this point because if Abby comes early she will be ready for life here. Our little girl is due in 6 short weeks! She is growing, kicking, poking, prodding, and seems healthy. I am measuring at 33 weeks which is great. Our doctor is still my favorite and so amazing! He has helped me to be calm throughout this pregnancy by Gods grace. My belly is growing rounder and bigger by the day. It amazes me that soon we will be in a hospital where I might be in loads of pain and then it will be over and our miracle child will be here! I wonder what Abigail will look like? Will she have a full head of dark brown hair, with brown eyes and super cute lips like I have pictured:) Will she have a big forehead like she seemed to have in the 4D ultrasound? Will she be a good sleeper or super fussy? I am not worried about any of that I just wonder what life will be like with our beautiful daughter in the world! We are so excited to watch God bless and grow our family. Collin is going to be such a great big brother. We are so proud of him. He is doing so well in school and is maturing daily. I just love what a sweet child he is and pray God continues to soften his heart! We want more than anything for our kids to love Jesus and be awesome witnesses to Gods kingdom. And what a gift God gives us to raise children in His ways! I am sure it will be a daily challenge but we look forward to it. I am thankful to have a husband that will lead and guide our family in such a beautiful and Godly way. A husband who loves the Lord is the sweetest blessing outside of my own salvation. Praise Jesus!

Babymoon

Brian and I laugh every time we hear, read, or say the word Babymoon. However, after experiencing one we are so blessed and thankful for our night away before our sweet little girl comes into the world! (still a funny word though).
Yesterday Brian and I got a hotel at the Manchester Hyatt next door to Seaport Village. A very beautiful hotel that we got for a great price. We have come to love hotwire. You plug in the dates and the area you want to stay and at a very discounted rate you get a hotel but you do not know which one until you pay and confirm everything. When we got to the hotel they did not have a room with a view until 4pm. I was going to just wait until then but the man checking us in started talking to me about being pregnant and how this was our last getaway before Abby gets here. He gave us a free upgrade King size room which was larger and had more windows and a beautiful view with a check in right away! God really blessed our trip and time together! We did a lot of walking, spent a little time in the pool and soaked my feet in the hot tub, ate lots of yummy food, read, and just relaxed together! It was such a nice treat! As we walked back to our room from breakfast it started raining on us! It was really romantic! As much as we wanted to lay by the pool all day it was nice to see some rain and clouds:)
Praising God for all He does in and through us!

The view from our room!

As to the Lord

"Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband."
Ephesians 5:22-33

What a powerful text! This is what we studied in our bible studies this week. For our Tuesday night bible study I kept thinking to myself, "how often do I fail to submit and love Brian?" I could not wrap my head around what this looked like and how bad I fail. I know that my nature is to lead and be in control.

Brian brought this great text up from Genesis 3:16,

"To the woman he said, "I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing;
in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband,
and he shall rule over you."

I never realized that the desire in this text is referring to desiring to lead our husbands. It is not a good desire God is speaking of. This desire to rule over our husbands started at the fall.

The next day we were headed to our second bible study on the same text. On our way there we were talking about our little trip we are taking on Sunday. We booked a hotel downtown on the bay for a great price to celebrate our 1st anniversary in October and a last little night away for awhile before our baby comes. We are only going to have Sunday and Monday and I really want to make the most of our time. I said to Brian on the way to study, "are we staying for Sunday school as well after church." He said, "Of course we are." And I immediately got upset and told him that we barely get anytime to be away and I really want to make the most of it. Why cant we just go to church and leave. Brian says, "you know how hard it is for us that people spend so much time studying to present a message for Sunday School and most of the church just leaves after the sermon. We want to be there to grow and learn and support the speaker and then we can start out trip." I still was not hearing him out even though I knew what he was saying was the right thing. We went to bible study and I was completely convicted for not submitting to my Godly husband who loves the church so much he wants to lead our family in a Godly way. He will never book anything that would cause us to miss church. We just love the church body which is the Bride of Christ! How can you not? We have always wanted to make sure that even when our baby comes we will continue to be involved and be at church for both services and if I need to go home Brian will stay. How can I get irritated with my husband leading us in such a Godly example? I was so humbled the next day and really felt so loved and cherished by the leader of our home. I pray to grow in these areas that people think are so foreign and old school. And church is not just on Sunday we really want to be involved throughout the week as well in fellowship with the body.

If we follow the bible and love God than this is a text we too must follow as husbands and wives. What a blessing to be under Godly leadership!

Kids room

I am so very excited to post these pictures! I feel like I am almost done with our kids room. It has been so so fun decorating. Our friends and family have blessed us so much we were able to get all the things we need and extra things I was hoping for. God is so faithful and always provides. A couple months ago we bought a crib on craigslist that I was so happy about. We paid 80.00 for it. I refused to buy anything new and wanted to be as wise with our money as possible. Last weekend we tried to buy a mattress and could not get one to fit. It turned into a big fiasco and we found out our crib had been recalled for years and the people that sold it to us had no idea as far as we know. It was recalled due to 13 toddlers dying. It is not our crib model only but all cribs made by that brand. We did not have a drop down side crib it was a problem with something else. After some more research I found out that Walmart or Target had to take the cribs back and give you store credit. We figure since this all happened years ago we might not be able to do much and then I wondered how we would buy a new crib with store credit. Long story short Walmart took back our crib for double what we paid for it in cash which covered our new crib fully.
God has taught me so much this year about trusting in Him in ALL things. I was very anxious about that and several other things that were going on and they were all so small compared to Kingdom purposes. I had to repent and ask God to forgive me for my behavior. He always shows himself to be loving and good and I quickly forget!
We were incredibly blessed by our baby shower at church. My friend Kaylee put that together and it was overwhelmingly wonderful. Gods love poured out through his people. To me having those we love come to share this joy with us meant so much more than all of the gifts. Abby is set for a long time to come. My mother in law has been sending my our nieces clothes. Abby has more clothes than I ever have owned in my life. From 0-6 months I will never have to wash anything. She could have a new outfit everyday:)Our family blessed us with a very nice recliner chair and other items we did not think we would end up getting.
Thank you all for your love! We are overwhelmed in this season of our life! God is so gracious!!!

Livvy (who gave birth today to a beautiful Noah 8/25/11), me at 31 weeks, and Kaylee at 27 weeks

Four generations! Grandma, mom, and I! They were able to make it to the baby shower!

Collin loves his room! He is so happy to have all his fun colors and fun things!

Abby and I have similar taste:) My friends Julia and Lori helped add a few homemade sweet touches we just love!

Do you see her closet! That is a lot of clothes!!!!!

Motherhood Is Application

BY: Rachel Jankovic is a wife, homemaker, and mother. She is the author of "Loving the Little Years" and blogs at Femina. Her husband is Luke, and they have five children.

If I had to pick one word to describe motherhood, I think that word would be “transforming.”

The days of a busy mother are made up of millions of transformations. Dirty children become clean, the hungry child fed, the tired child sleeping. Almost every task a mother performs in the course of a normal day could be considered a transformation. Disorder to order, dirty clothes to clean, unhappy children to peaceful, empty fridge to full. Every day we fight against disorder, filth, starvation, and lawlessness, and some days we might almost succeed. And then, while we sleep, everything unravels and we start again in the morning — transforming.

Days of these little cycles add up and suddenly you see a big transformation. A nursing infant has become a boy on a bicycle, a baby bump has grown into a toddler, and children have been changed into brothers and sisters.

Then there is the kind of transformations that we do — not because we work at it, but because we were created to do it. You eat your lunch, and your body transforms it into nourishment for a baby. Taking something too big for an infant, and still finding a way to feed them with it — with the goal of growing them up to do it themselves.

Pregnancy and nursing are only a small part of a child’s life though — and this cycle is clearly not only a physical one. It is the spiritual cycle of food that is so much more important, and so much less talked about. Christian mothering is a constant cycle of nourishment — both physical and spiritual.
We Apply What We Believe

In the same way we take the food we eat and make it into something the baby can eat (and our bodies simply do this without us willing them to), so we take what we believe about God and the gospel and faith and life, and we apply it in the places that seem too little for it.

Imagine yourself in your kitchen trying to make dinner for a group of little kids who are tired and should have eaten a half hour ago. Imagine that things are going wrong beyond that — maybe you are out of something you assumed you had, children are fussing with one another, and maybe your littlest is still at the age where they come stand on your feet and pull on your pant leg. Bonus points if you are wearing maternity pants and this little person is actually capable of pulling your pants down. You are hot, you are tired, and you are sick of it.

This is no time for a gospel presentation. There isn’t time. There isn’t anyone to lead the discussion around the felt board, because you are still scrambling to figure out dinner. This isn’t a time for a gospel presentation because it is a time for gospel application. This is a time to take the grace that God has extended to you, and feed your children with it. Apply what you believe about God’s mercy and kindness and long suffering towards us, and pour it out to them — in a form they can believe in. Unrest like this is just like a baby crying for a bottle — only what they need is spiritual milk. They need you to feed them, not with a lecture, but with application.
You Have Everything You Need

Mothering is a job that is full of difficult moments. Diapers blow out in stores when you have too much in your cart to just walk out. Sudden carsickness can leave you pulled over on the side of the road wondering just how much can be done with half a bag of wet wipes. You need to take what you believe and apply it to these difficult moments. Does the Bible teach us that God is disgusted by our frailty? That he doesn’t want to carry our burdens? That he doesn’t have the energy to deal with us?

The good news is, you don’t need to have been through some elite mother’s training camp to apply the gospel in your life. You need to believe. Trust God, give thanks. Laugh. Believe — and that will feed your children. Rest in God, and your children will learn to. Extend God’s kindness to you, to them. Forgive them the way God forgave you. You have everything you need to spiritually nourish your children, because you have Christ.

The gospel is not just something to talk about Sunday morning while you are in clean clothes and the kids are looking orderly. It is not limited to quiet times and reflective moods. It is something to apply while you are in a difficult position in the back of the car trying to buckle a child up who is playing the kazoo and needs their nose wiped.

God is not above these moments. He is teaching us, and leading us, and refining us, in them. He wants to see our faith in action. He wants to see us feeding our children with the grace that he has given to us.
Mimic the Gospel

Of course, this side of heaven we will not do perfectly. Harsh words will be spoken, patience will wear thin. Frazzled mothers will act frazzled. And when this happens, our own sinfulness does not detract from the power of the gospel, it illustrates why we need it. Do not use your own mistakes as an excuse to wallow about what a bad mother you are. Repent, seek forgiveness, get it right, and move on. Believe. Be forgiven. Extend that forgiveness, that belief, that joy, to your children.

As you go about your daily transformations, set your heart on the truth. Mimic the gospel in what you do. Bring peace, bring order, bring joy, bring laughter. Bring it because it was brought to you. Give, because it was given to you. The gospel is not too big to fit into little situations. It is too big not to.

Chicken and Veggie Kabobs

This pictures shows the kabobs before they are cooked. I think they are so colorful:)

Brian and I got a barbecue a about two months ago and I am really enjoying it! It has made cooking so much more fun! This past couple weeks I am loving kabobs with meat and veggies and lots of corn on the cob! If you need meal ideas I highly recommend this and it is super easy, inexpensive, yummy, and takes 15 minutes at the most to cook.

I have been marinating half of my chicken with barbecue sauce and the other half with italian dressing. Add some mushrooms, peppers, onion, and zuchinni and you are good to go:)
